The Applied Blood Testing Course is an eight-module CPD certification that teaches practitioners how to build and run a private blood testing service safely, accurately and profitably. It is written for nutritional therapists, naturopaths, health coaches, personal trainers, gym and clinic owners and other health professionals who want to add objective data to their practice and interpret it to a clinical standard rather than a consumer one. The course covers the commercial case and the market, the science behind every major biomarker, the scope and evidence boundaries that keep the work safe, panel design and laboratory selection, a repeatable framework for interpreting any report, how to turn results into an action plan a client will follow, the revenue models that make the service sustainable, and the registration, consent and data protection framework that holds all of it together. Throughout, one principle governs everything: identify, support and refer, never diagnose.

This course is designed for practising health professionals, including nutritional therapists, naturopaths, health coaches, personal trainers, gym and clinic owners, and other practitioners working in private health and wellness. No prior knowledge of blood biochemistry is assumed; the science is taught from first principles, and Module 2 includes a full biomarker reference guide. What is assumed is an existing professional practice, a clear understanding of your own scope, and appropriate professional indemnity insurance. Please note that this CPD course provides educational knowledge only. It does not extend your legal or professional scope of practice, it does not register you with a healthcare regulator, and it does not qualify anyone to perform venepuncture, to diagnose or treat medical conditions, or to interpret clinical results outside their registered scope. Module 8 sets out in detail what has to be in place before you test your first client.

Module 1: Introduction to Blood Testing and the Practitioner Opportunity
The UK private blood testing market and the five forces driving its growth, who is already delivering these services, the gap between disease-threshold testing and genuine wellness, your value proposition against an eight-minute appointment, the revenue model across a full client episode and retest cycle, the complete client journey from enquiry to annual retention, and the six setup steps required to launch a compliant service.
Module 2: The Science of Blood Biomarkers
The Full Blood Count and what the red cell indices reveal about mechanism, metabolic markers including fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, kidney and liver function in a wellness population, the full lipid panel with ApoB, Lp(a) and the TG to HDL ratio, thyroid and sex hormones including the T4 to T3 conversion picture, the nutritional core, inflammatory and immune markers, and the specialist and emerging markers that carry additional consent requirements. Includes full reference guides for every marker and a glossary of units.
Module 3: Health Outcomes: What Blood Testing Can and Cannot Do
Scope of practice in detail and the identify, support, refer framework, the distinction between screening, monitoring and diagnosis, the evidence base graded by health domain, how standard reference ranges are actually constructed and where functional targets legitimately sit, reading a laboratory report systematically, communicating evidence to a well-researched client, evidence-based support options within scope, and blood test priorities by gender, age and ethnic group.
Module 4: Selecting the Right Panels, Point-of-Care Testing and Digital Workflows
The four questions that justify every panel, building a standardised three-tier core menu, choosing and working with a UKAS ISO 15189 accredited laboratory, point-of-care testing and the registration, insurance and quality assessment obligations that come with it, pre-test client preparation in detail, sample handling and chain of custody, and the paperless workflow that carries a client from intake and consent through to the action plan.
Module 5: Interpreting Results and Client Communication
The critical and urgent referral values card, the anatomy of a laboratory report, a ten-step practitioner framework for reviewing any result, the four common multi-marker patterns, the structure of a results consultation, the written client action plan, clinical record-keeping, communicating difficult results, knowing your limits, and how pre-test factors change interpretation. Includes printable quick-reference cards, marker interpretation cheat sheets and practice templates.
Module 6: Programme Design and Action Plans
Root cause thinking against symptom management, the priority hierarchy with referral first, writing the comprehensive action plan, the marker colour-tag system for complex cases, a full cardiometabolic case worked from mock report through prioritisation to protocol, and an open-book scenario assessment. Includes condition protocol reference sheets and a marker cross-reference index.
Module 7: Revenue Models and Business Integration
The five income streams a testing service creates, tiered pricing for panels, consultations and packages, programme architecture and why the bundled twelve-week journey outperforms the single panel, subscription and retainer models, digital tools and technology integration, marketing a data-led service inside the CAP Code, the five blood collection models with their cost and regulatory implications, and a conservative twelve-month financial projection.
Module 8: Best Practice, Compliance and Governance
The regulatory landscape across the four UK nations, registration for diagnostic and screening procedures and what it obliges, UK GDPR and special category health data, informed consent and what makes it valid, professional indemnity requirements specific to blood testing, scope of practice in regulatory terms, a four-part risk management framework, laboratory quality standards, safeguarding, and continuing professional development and governance review.
